Now, when there is a power failure, the generator automatically starts up and provides for the needs of the household

My local area experiences especially severe weather just about all year round. The winters are long, cold and snowy. We see temperatures down to negative twenty-five and accumulate multiple feet of snow in a matter of hours. Our heating systems are extremely important. The furnace is not only essential in keeping a comfortable home but also prevents our water pipes from freezing and bursting. I take very good care of the heating system to promote reliability, efficiency and longevity. We typically are required to run the furnace from the middle of October until the end of April or beginning of May. While it’s always a relief when the spring weather finally arrives, we often are subjected to huge storms. We endure high winds, thunder, lightning and torrential downpours. There is the fear of power outages. A few years ago, we lost electricity for five days. We had no lights, internet or running water. We couldn’t take a shower, wash our hands, wash the dishes, do laundry or even flush a toilet. With no power, the sump pump quit running and the basement flooded. I started to worry about the consequences of a lengthy outage during the middle of winter. Without the furnace operating, we’d be forced to brave dangerous road conditions to check into a hotel. There would be a huge risk of damage to the water pipes. While the investment into a permanently installed standby generator was quite expensive, it was worth it for peace of mind. Now, when there is a power failure, the generator automatically starts up and provides for the needs of the household. The sump pump, furnace, refrigerator and water pump continue to run uninterrupted.
