I’ll never forget the first time that I moved out on my own.
I had to face the old and difficult task of changing an air filter all by myself.
There was only one problem though; no one ever showed me how to change the air filter. So I had no idea what I was doing. I knew that a switch turned off the heat and air conditioning, but that was all I knew how to do. It does not help that back in the day this was the pre-internet era, so I couldn’t just go on Google and Google how to change a HEPA air filter. I had to do what everyone back then would do when they couldn’t figure out how to do something; they called their parents or a friend. I called my dad and I asked him how to change my air filter and he explained the way that it worked. Apparently the way he learned how to change an air filter when he was young was when the heating and cooling professional showed it to him. He said that he had recently bought some air filters for his Heating, Ventilation, and A/C unit, but he had no idea how to change them either. Lucky for him, since he was right there at the heating and air conditioning company, there were nice heating and cooling workers that were kind enough to show him how to do it. He told me that once he first learned to do it, it was way easier than he originally imagined in his head. Like me, he made it out to be some complicated process when in reality it wasn’t complicated at all. He showed me how to change the air filter of my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system and I had unlocked yet another life lesson.
